FFII: Brussels 2004-04-14 Events, Net Strike

Ha! I've received an email for FFII campaign and net strike as follow (because I've voted there for saying no to software patent):

Dear supporter of FFII,

On the 14th of April we launch a campaign(1) in Brussels, by which we want to support the European Parliament's decision to restate the non-patentability of software and oppose attempts by the European Commission and national patent officials in the EU Council (under Irish presidency) to sidestep this decision.

The PageRank of the main page is now 5/10. But for the other pages, they are mostly 1/10... even for the pages which are created long long time ago... Weird, isn't it?

Mozilla 1.7 Beta is out

Mozilla 1.7 Beta is out, with some minor improvements...

Although I'm now using Firefox, I'm especially interested in those improvements "under the hood", e.g.

Mozilla 1.7 size and performance have improved dramatically with this release. When compared to Mozilla 1.6, Mozilla 1.7 Beta is 7% faster at startup, is 8% faster at window open time, has 9% faster pageloading times, and is 5% smaller in binary size.

"Free" Domains

An unknown company called "Free.TV" has bought tons of domains like openwiki.org and xpath.org. It said that the domains are "free" to use as long as the sites link back to it.

How would somebody do THAT...?! =___=

The following is an open letter to anyone selling Mozilla-branded merchandise. It's being posted rather than emailed in the spirit of openness, and to ensure everyone who needs to read it can see a copy.

As I don't have a blog, I'm putting it here - feel free to blog it so the word gets spread.

Dear Mozilla supporter,

We note that you are selling Mozilla-branded merchandise in your web shop/fashion house/bazaar stall (delete as appropriate.) While we are pleased that you want to support Mozilla in this way, the Mozilla Foundation enforces its trademarks and requires permission to sell merchandise that includes our artwork or name.

The Mozilla project uses Mozilla, Firefox, the fox-on-the-globe and other names and logos to brand its products and goods. We like to think that it's a mark of quality. (That's not to say that what you're selling is necessarily poor quality; we make no claims either way.) We'd like to be certain that what's being sold with our logos on is the good stuff. And (let's be honest here) it's only fair that we get a cut, to contribute towards keeping the Foundation going.

So we'd ask you, please, to stop selling Mozilla-branded merchandise and get in touch with licensing@mozilla.org to discuss how to proceed. We'll talk business plans, quality guarantees, percentages and so on. We're really open to coming to a fair arrangement.

The Mozilla store (http://store.mozilla.org) is our chosen vendor for the US, Canada and Mexico. OK, there's not much stuff there now, but we hope to have more soon. So we're unlikely to allow general Mozilla merchandise aimed at the general public to be offered by anyone else in those territories.

However, people in other countries, get in touch as outlined above and we'll see if we can work something out. You want to support us, and we want to be supported - so it shouldn't be too hard :-)

A simple but crazy idea suddenly came out of my mind: what happen if the URL of an iframe is actually that page itself? Let's see:

From my testing, only Mozilla browser can handle it. In IE and Opera, you can only see a white blank frame. I was using Mozilla Firefox 0.8, IE 6 SP1 and Opera 7.23.

Can your browser handle it? Tell me.

The World of OpenWikis

Beside the breakout of OpenWikiNG, there are more and more new and old OpenWiki forks coming out:

• OpenWiki in JScript - A rewrite of OpenWiki in JScript.
• OpenWiki in .NET - Still planing.
• OpenWikiFr - OpenWiki in French. See also its description in OpenWiki.
• And don't forget the latest one that I found:
  OpenWikiEx - Multi-lingual and multi-skin. Used some of the OpenWiki Extensions, including the SVG support added by me (and even those additional Mozilla emoticons... ^^:). See its description in OpenWiki for the list of improvements.

By the way, I'm now one of the developers of OpenWikiNG.

OpenWikiNG - OpenWiki breaks out

Recently I found an OpenWikiNG (Next Generation) project opened at sourceforge.net. The initiator, Paul Robertson, has recently written an email to everyone who has left their emails on OpenWiki.com:

OpenWiki is Laurens Pit's brainchild, an ASP version of the programme first coded in 1994 by Ward Cunningham [see c2.com for history]. Laurens specifically wanted to keep content and presentation separate in his Wiki, and crafted it so that Wiki pages are served up in XML, which is then transformed via XSLT.

Over the last coupe of years Laurens appears to have lost interest in his baby. In his absence, users have fixed most of the bugs affecting the last release [March 20, 2002: OpenWiki v0.78 SP1], and also added a range of useful features, such as a "rename this page" action [See Todd Burzynski's contribution at

OpenWiki has received good press and was recently named one of the best Open Source programmes of 2003 by PC Magazine

You made a BIG MISTAKE, Opera!

I've just found a guy who experienced the same "problem": JavaScript stops working in XHTML after upgrading to Opera 7.2 and above.

Opera, you made a big mistake. Utlimately this will stop people from using you... u__u|||

Is Opera stupid?

I just found that Opera doesn't support <script> in XHTML 1.1. What a... (speechless)

Anyway, it doesn't matter. I'm alway using Mozilla, the most standard complicant browser I've ever used...

Edited: Sorry for the mistake... Appearently Blogger doesn't have any change in in editor, it's just the problem of Mozilla 1.7 Alpha. For Mozilla 1.6, Firefox 0.8, etc, it can display correctly.
