No IE Information Bar

This is a duplicate of my SFX post because that post is no longer listed in the recent SFX posts. Feel free to comment on either of them. I'll check them all.

After reading the code of Ching Yonghan's Firebar, I've added some JScript to my original "Browse Happy Information Bar" to form the new "No IE Information Bar" that display localized messages. (Sorry for the lengthy names :-P). The demo and source are available.

But since Ching didn't ask for the translation of the tooltip text Browse Happy — Online. Worry-free., I have a hard time doing that. (I only know English and Chinese) So now I've made some ugly machine translation here. Please help me to correct them: :-) (Deleted ones are checked: see comments)

Want to challenge your friends? Ask them to try Firefox for 5 minutes! They got to love it. ;-)

Thanks lachlanhunt for creating the localization project. The zh-HK translation was done by me. Hope it is not too bad... :-P

車同軌,書同文

這與秦始皇沒關係。:-P 如果你是中文Firefox用家的話,可以試試安裝「同文堂」。它讓你可以自由使用繁體中文简体中文顯示網頁

Tong Wen Tang is a Firefox extension for instant translation between traditional and simpified chinese webpages.

Bloggerでカレンダーを使う方法

Got no idea what the title said? It is a Japanese sentence meaning the method of using the calendar with Blogger. Yup, it is about the Bloglendar script that I wrote almost 9 months ago.

Now there are at least two Japanese blogs mentioning it. And one of them even wrote a Japanese readme for the script! Wow... :-)

P.S. In case you have problem understanding Japanese like me, Babel Fish is your friend!

The "Mummy" Mutates!

After the return of mummy, the mummy mutates! Oh my god... AOL is now beta testing a Netscape branded browser based on Firefox! To join the beta testing team, simply login the registeration page with your AOL screen name, then enter the code prototype1104.

Though I'm not especially exciting about this news, I've joined as I had created the screen name long long time ago when Netscape told me to register for Netscape Mail. Let's hope that it will be Netscape 7.3 instead of Netscape 8... :-P

Red Panda Hunting Safari

Sometimes Wikipedia can be really interesting. Today I knew about the six degree of Wikipedia from Forever Geek. It is basically a query engine that finds the shortest path between 2 WikiPages.

When I compared Firefox with Safari, something interesting happened:

  • Firefox
  • Red Panda
  • Hunting
  • Safari

Would it become true? :-P (jokingly)

P.S. I don't hate Safari. It's one of great browsers...

Google + Firefox

Starting from Firefox 1.0, Firefox Start becomes the default homepage. But if you take a look of the URL, you should find something interesting: http://www.google.com/firefox. Hey! Google?

I wonder why...

P.S. You are not alone even if English is not your primary language: Firefox Start is also available in other localized Google sites too! e.g.:

The March to 10 Million

Spread Firefox has just recently announced the march to 10 million download of Firefox. Apparently there is no time limit. Let's see if we can reach the goal in ten days (again)!

Bloglines recommends Firefox

With the release of Firefox 1.0, Bloglines launches the Bloglines Firefox Center to help its users in switching to this better browser. As annoucned in its news section:

It's no surprise that Firefox has been a big hit among bloggers: the browser is free, small, fast, open-source, standards-compliant, supported by a large community, and nicely optimized for RSS discovery.

With the 1.0 release today, we think it is really going to take off, and that's why we're announcing the Bloglines Firefox Center today.

Over the past few months, we've watched users steadily switch away from Netscape and Internet Explorer to Firefox. Back in July, while Firefox was still in beta, it had grown to over 5% of our traffic. Today, Firefox represents 20% of requests to Bloglines.

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of Firefox is its ease of extensibility. We regularly hear from developers writing programs on top of the Bloglines Web Services and Notifier APIs, but the Firefox extensions are some of the best and should really help regular consumers use RSS. To learn more, visit our Firefox Center and grab a copy of the browser and all the latest extensions.

Text emphasized by me. ;-)

Firefox turns gold

Firefox 1.0 was just released a few hours ago. Because of the heavy traffic, I cannot access the release note yet. So I can't tell what the new changes are. But from what I observed, there is no obvious change from 1.0RC2.

The news is now spreading throughout the blogosphere:

Oh yeah! :-D

The Big Fox is Coming...

While technically not a fox, Firefox 1.0 will undoubtedly hit the web on 9/11... Nah... I mean November 9. ;-)

Any SFX members should now prepare themselve for spreading the big news when it is out.

Thunderbird 0.9 is out

Sliently, Thunderbird 0.9 is out. Not much exciting new changes. Maybe they are just pushing the version number so that it aligns with Firefox? :-P

P.S. Firefox RC2 will be out very very soon.
