Submit button should disable until submit done

In XForms, upon activation, this control must become unavailable for further activations until the submit process concludes with either an xforms-submit-done or xforms-submit-error event.. This is undoubtedly helpful. Currently, in order to create effect like this, some JavaScript codes need to be written. (I've written that before)

No? Did you even double post because you have clicked the submit button twice? In fact, my sister has an experience of buying two cinema tickets because she had clicked the button twice. X-)

Storming Redmond

The cover story of the February 2005 issue of Wired, entitled The Firefox Explosion, can now be read online. Perhap this is the most interesting image:

Storming Redmond

The article is fine, except that Firefox is sometimes misspelled as "FireFox"... Sigh...

XForms is coming

Cool. They made it! XForms will be available as a Mozilla extension really soon! The extension can only be installed in recent trunk builds as XTF is required. I guess Mozilla 1.8a6 will do so.

That's really exciting! If interested, you should read also doron's article about this.

I guess what is missing now is probably server-side support, say, native support in PHP? :-P

Major changes to MoFo

It is really interesting...

  • Ben Goodger, the Engineering Lead of Firefox, is now employed by Google.
  • Mitchell Baker, Mozilla Foundation's President and employee of OSAF, will return to working on the Mozilla project full time.
  • Stuart "pavlov" Parmenter, an Oracle employee, is now working on Mozilla Calendar.

I don't really get it. Why do some companies pay their employees to do things for MoFo? They won't have a say on the Mozilla projects because of the policy on Module Owners and Ownership. Maybe these companies are really foreseeing the future...

These are not the only cases: IBM, Novell, Sun, Red Hat, Oracle and now Google have employees contributing to the Mozilla project -- some dedicated, some part time, and some as individual contributors. Having multiple companies offer jobs to key Mozilla figures has long been a part of our view of a successful project and we've traditionally worked closely with companies whose employees contribute to the Mozilla project..

Read more about the clarifications by Mitchell. And these are the news:

Updated: yet another guy joined Google. I'd like to quote what Asa said:

Before going to Google, Darin was employed by IBM to work on Mozilla, and before that, by Netscape/AOL.

What an interesting development ecosystem we have, where you can have three successive employers each interested in funding your work on Mozilla.

Should browser supports BitTorrent natively?

While Bugzilla is not a discussion forum, there has been active discussion about whether Mozilla should support BitTorrent as a file download mechanism.

Don't put unnecessary comment here. Maybe someone should make a BitTorrent browser plugin first? Yup, I mean plugin, not extension. That shouldn't be too hard. The source code of BitTorrent is available. Someone just need to port it to the NPAPI interface.

The downside of success

The downside of Blake Ross's success:

The downside of his success: All my computer science professors are expecting straight A's, even in classes that have nothing to do with the Internet, he said.

And have his appearances in major newspapers posted on his eponymous Web site helped with those California girls at school?

They're the ones that aren't impressed at all, he said with a laugh.

Portable Firefox/Thunderbird standardized

If you are familar to the Mozilla community, you should have probably heard of Portable Firefox and Portable Thunderbird. Today mozilla.org just announced that these 2 wonderful applications will support an new open standard platform for USB drives, known as U3:

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – January 7th, 2005 – The Mozilla Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving choice and promoting innovation on the Internet, today announced that its Mozilla Firefox web browser and Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail client will support the new U3 standard for managing applications and data on USB flash drives, allowing people to easily carry, store and launch Mozilla software from any PC. As an industry consortium founded by SanDisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) and M-Systems (NASDAQ: FLSH) along with other industry leading software vendors and content providers, U3 looks to expand the USB Flash Drive technology market beyond storage by creating an open standard platform to attract a community of independent developers to build applications for U3 devices. Through Mozilla’s vibrant open source development community, an existing project to provide portable versions of Firefox and Thunderbird for USB flash drives, led by volunteer developers, will be extended to embrace this new standard.

  • 40% scored higher,
  • 1% scored the same, and
  • 59% scored lower.

What does this mean? Your nerdiness is: Somewhat nerdy. I mean face it, you are nerdier than about half the test takers.

Free Webcam Show

Beware of any webcam nearby. You are probably in danger:

Axis Communications (amongst others) manufacturer security cameras with integral web-servers to provide browser-based monitoring. Unsurprisingly, many of these video servers are completely unsecured - broadcasting their security footage across the entire Internet.

This is what I saw earlier from a video server of a self service laundry:
